| Fabulous view of the river Tyne and brdges, and nice and handy for the city centre. Hotel staff friendly. However.. and here come the brickbats - the beds were incredibly uncomfortable. Soft with dips in the middle and the feeling that the springs were about to pop through any minute. They definitely need replacing. Bathrooom poorly equipped too - the toilet tissue was so stiff it was almost like the Izal days at school! No biscuits in room either and very little milk. One could have probably asked for milk at reception but that's not the point - this is supposedly a four star hotel. Breakfast weekday morning was excellent - but Sunday was like being at a holiday camp, queuing up for an English breakfast buffet style and some items were almost cold. Come on Copthorne- a fabulous setting for a hotel, generally good service but its the finishing touches which let you down. The last time in Newcastle I stayed at the Vermont - on reflection I would probably choose it again rather than the Copthorne. However the Copthorne's location beats everything and generally the hotel is nicely furnished. |
