Fassbind Hotel City Am Bahnhof, Bern

A handy hotel for the centre of Bern. It is opposite the main train station and various tram/bus stops. The room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and spacious but did not have air conditioning which would have been good given the hot weather we had. Staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast very good.

The hotel is very conveniently located at the exit of the Rail City Bern. We had the room at the highest attic floor, which is not bad actually. The room is quite long, with a good view of Bern Rail city exit. The room and toilet are clean. The only concern I had was no air-con in the room. It can be stuffy during summer time. To our surprise, the hotel did not provide free LAN/WIFI. This was the only hotel we stayed that did not provide free internet during our 2-week trip in Europe. Luckily, Rail City Bern provided free internet but it blocked all social network interactions, which is still ok as we needed internet to check-in our flight and check weather and local attractions. Breakfast was good with enough choices. We went for breakfast at 7:45 am and there was a big tour group in the restaurant. It was a total mess. We went out and came back around 8:30 am and things were gradually back to normal, but still with a few misses here and there, I couldn't blame them. Overall, I will consider to stay in this hotel again if price continues to stay competitive.

We were a group of 3, found that room is spacious and clean. Location is great too...very near the train station and shopping place. Would be even better if hotel offers free WIFI/Internet.

The big plus is the proximity to the the station and the old city, and to a very nearby public outdoor swimming area. Try to float on the Aare with the locals. Room difficult to get cool. Breakfast is awful, if you find enough of it. On several days, they did not have any more sandwiches and seemingly did not bother.

Contrary to the many poor reviews we read before booking here, my husband and I were quite impressed with the effort made by the staff to accommodate our needs. We were greeted by friendly, professional people. The hotel is in an awesome location, located immediately adjacent to the train station and University (which is where my conference was held!). Our room was clean and roomy. The breakfast was good and nicely presented, and, contrary to previous reports, there was nobody watching every piece of food that we ate. The breakfast room was also clean and comfortable. As it turned out, we ended up needing another night at the end of our stay. We requested the same room, and that is exactly what we got. This is why it's important that we keep providing feedback, because in the case of this hotel, improvements were made. We would definitely return, and would recommend it to others.
