Amakhala Game Reserve is located between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape. This wild frontier country was once tamed for sheep and cattle farming by the British 1820 settlers. Today it is once again as nature intended it to be, rugged African country, and the experience is unforgettable
Rooms Information
Carnarvon Dale; Guests enjoy comfortable accommodation in the historic Settler farmhouse built in 1857, “The Bottom House”, or the elegantly restored Edwardian cottage, “The Top House”. Bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and private lounges. Children over six years old are welcome. Farmstyle meals are served in the diningroom. Eliweni is a delightful thatched lodge nestling in the bush overlooking the Bushmans River. Eliweni is a rustic open-plan lodge and sleeps five persons. Kitchen facilities are available and catering is by arrangements with the hosts. Leeuwenhof consists of the Country House and Shearers Lodge. Built in 1908 and set in its own lovely garden, the Country House is a beautiful home, which offers true country living in every sense. Both spacious and comfortable, it has four en-suite bedrooms and a suite. The old 1832 cellar pub with its full size antique billiard table is an ideal place to relax. Shearers Lodge, set in the grounds of Leeuwenbosch, was originally built in 1930 and used for shearing and classing wool. It has become four luxury en-suite bedrooms, one with a private lounge. All the rooms open on to a wide colonial verandah, overlooking indigenous gardens and the quaint Leeuwenbosch Chapel. Children are welcome. Reed Valley Inn; these historic buildings once provided rest and safe haven for the Mailwagon passengers. Four comfortable en suite bedrooms in the quiet farmyard ensure complete privacy.Children are welcome and babysitting is available. Farm style breakfasts and three course dinners are served in the main dining room. The Safari Lodge is hidden up in a kloof in the indigenous Valley Bushveld. Sleep in African huts where every comfort awaits you. Soak in a big double bath or enjoy the outdoor shower and enjoy the stars sitting around the campfire. Children over 12 years old are welcome. Woodbury Lodge is up the beautiful krantz above the Bushmans River Valley. There are four thached lodges built of stone, serviced by a central dining room and barbecue area, lounge bar and swimming pool.All the lodges have en suite bathrooms and wooden outlook decks.There is a full range of catering options. Children are welcome. Witmos Oxwagons. Take a step back in time and experience the history of the Eastern Cape frontier. Nestled in pristine Valley Bushveld, these authentically restored wagons have been comfortably fitted out as bedrooms, with adjoining private bathrooms. The centre of the camp is an airy, thatched entertainment area, and traditional meals are served. Children over 12 years old are welcome

Each accommodation lodge has its own catering facilties, offered by the hosts, descendants of the 1820 settler families who came to farm here. Farm-style and traditional meals are served and a full range of catering facilties is offered. Campfires and barbecues are also on the list
Facilities & Services
Day activities include game drives, canoeing, picnics and walking trails. Guests can also choose just to relax in the peaceful garden or enjoy bird watching or game walks along the Bushmans River or go on a picnics and river cruise. Safaris are on offer and game such as rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe and some 16 species of antelope may be seen. The Amakhala Conservation Centre promotes environmental awareness. Evenings are spent around a campfire listening to stories of days gone by with your hosts
