Spa: Aquae Curiva was the name given by the Romans to the thermal springs they discovered during their occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. From Curiva came the name of the town of CURIA, which is one of the oldest and most famous Spas in Portugal. The Spa remains forgotten for centuries, until in 1900 Albano Coutinho founded the Sociedade da Aguas da Curia. Nowadays, the Curia Spa offers the combination of spa tradition together with comfort and modern technology, by means of the new Spa building opened in 1993. The Curia Spa therefore welcomes visitors throughout the year, whether for thermal cure programmes or simply for relaxing vacations. The waters at Curia contain mainly sulphates, calcium and magnesium and are recommended for the metabolism, for endocrinopathy, calculus and kidney infections, together with hypertension, rheumatism and muscular-skeletal illnesses.
Spa technical facilities include Oral water ingestion, Bathing (with underwater douche or air-bubble), Duche Vichy, Aix, Jet or Shower, Lumbar, Hydro massage, Sauna, Steam heat, Swimming pool for rehabilitation, Gymnasium with mechanotherapy, Massage, Electrotherapy (traction, ultrasonic vibrations, short wave and microwave treatments, ultra-violets and infra-red rays, diadynamics currents, etc). The Thermal Complex as the Hotel das Termas, that came beneficiated and ampliated all over the years, are inside of a park with an area of 14 hectares. The park has a beautiful and a dense wood separated by wide avenues and tracks and it has since 1924 in its interior a beautiful artificial lake with a perimeter of 1 Km that was considerate the biggest in the Iberia Peninsula. There is also an exercise circuit and picnic places. In the middle of the lake there is an island that has 2 tennis courts and a children park. The island is reachable by the typical bridges that make the connections between land and the island. The lake gives you the chance of make promenades in the famous sea-gulls boats . You can also rent bikes for the promenades in the park. The area of the Complex has a well care and beautifully garden with enormous palm trees |
