Euro Hotel Centrum, Rotterdam

Location excellent, close to metro in quiet back street. Rooms small and a bit shabby. First room SO small you needed a system to have two people walking round it at once. Asked to moved. Got a bigger, better room but the odd lingering smell in the bathroom rather let it down. Walls very thin so take earplugs. Breakfast ok but limited selection and no fresh coffee. Staff friendly and helpful, level of English very good, as it is everywhere in Holland. Overall, hotel adequate, but I would look for somewhere else in the location first before going back here.

Being a luxury traveller, I do admit that this is the first 3-star hotel I have ever stayed in, so I don't really have a benchmark. On the positive side: the staff was very polite and helpful, the room was clean and the breakfast was surprisingly varied. On the negative side: I found the room really small. Furthermore, although I do understand (and support) the non-smoking policy in the hotels, it is a tremendous inconvenience to have to stand on the pavement every time one wishes to light a cigarette. Above all, what I really found distrurbing is that the windows in the room did not open; in fact, you can only tilt the top side of the window for 3-4 centimeters. I find this extremely claustophobic. I don't understand why these hotels simply assume that all one might want is to jump out of the window and bring bad publicity (as if there are no other ways to kill yourself inside the hotel if you're set for it!)
