The American has an excellent location, great breakfast area (@ the Cafe Americain), friendly staff but a disappointing room interior, with no character. Had a good experience when I complained about my room size and it was promptly changed to a larger and quieter room. Recommended

Room was quiet, quite small, bathroom large, pressure of shower minimal. We had a balcony view to opposite wall. Breakfast, location and service excellent.

Lovely hotel, huge breakfast, which helped offset how expensive it was. Dinner seemed less good-value and a bit hap-hazard: the wine we wanted was finished, they brought us the wrong starter and the mains courses had way too little sauce for our tastes. One final niggle: I think it's a bit cheapskate for a hotel with this number of stars to advertise on their websites that all rooms come with bathrobes ... then you finally discover in the in-room small print that you have to go and ask for them at the front desk.

The American is located in an excellent location, in a beautiful old building,with an Art Deco facade. The hotel is very pleasant, the service is great, friendly and efficient. The concierge and the desk people are well informed and helpful. In fact I probably should have rated it as 10, except there is always some room for improvement. We will recommend it and hope to come back.
