Parc Alvisse Hotel, Luxembourg

This situation in this Hotel has definitely improved over the past few months. They have refurnished the entrance lobby which now looks very smart. The staff were very corteous. The Breakfast staff wouldn't let you use tables set for lunch even though there was no breakfast tables available. Breakfast staff also a bit too keen to clear the tables taking my coffee away before I'd finish drinking it. I also found that staff kept switching off the heating in my room.

Hotel has recently been renovated. When I arrived in Hotel it was snowing outside and -5 degress (very cold ouside) but the hotel had not switched the heating on in my room. The corridor was warmer than my room. Everyday the cleaners would then switch-off the heating again and so each evening it wasn't possible for me to work in sub-zero temperatures. I did think of moving my bed to the hotel corridor outside the room. Also the TV in my room only had one American news channel and no English speaking channels availble.

When I arrived in November, room was cold and had to switch on heating myself. There is no cooked breakfast, only hard boiled eggs. The breakfast room appears like a self-service canteen. The maid was so good at cleaning my room, she took away my plastic suit covers, probably thinking they were rubbish. One night there was a guy playing Spanish Guitar really loud near my room and he continued playing until 12.30am. Compliants to staff fall on deaf ears. Not good if you have to be up early in the morning.

The hotel can be easily reached only by taxi.The stuff is very helpfull and forethought. The restaurant is very good, only the breakfast could had been with a more wide choice of dishes

We had mixed reactions to this hotel. The main road to the hotel was blocked and no diversion signs were provided. We had to drive round half of Luxembourg to find the other end of the road which was also blocked! A tiny sign showed you could bypass the block for the hotel. The hotel itself looked like it had seen better days. It was clean and comfortable, but had inconsistencies - e.g. a beautifully decorated and clean swimming pool with panels missing from the ceiling! The shower in our room was a hand shower only, and they placed us in the farthest room from the lift (which was a fair old hike). The location is not ideal. It's probably half an hour's walk from a railway station, but the trains didn't seem all that frequent. To be fair, we were less impressed by Luxembourg as a country than we were by the hotel. The staff were helpful enough, and we had a comfortable stay, but I would say that the Alvisse Parc was barely hanging on to that 4th star!
