Hotel Eiropa Jurmala

The hotel was very pleasant, with an old-style main building and a motel-style annexe (where our room was located) immediately behind it. The room was, as you would expect, relatively basic, but perfectly adequate and very clean. We had breakfast at the hotel each day, and one day the weather was good enough to have it outside on the terrace. The brekfast was not terribly exciting, but perfectly adequate and well presented. The hotel was near the beach (about 150 metres) and near the main "drag" with its shops, restaurants and bars, (a similar distance) although not so near as to noisy - for us this was ideal. The high spot of the hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, many of whom seemed to speak fluent English - two examples. We wanted to go into Riga on the train from Dzintari, and I enquired about trains at reception. I was told that the train times were the same 7 days a week, and within a minute or so the receptionist had printed out a complete list of times off the Internet, and told me the cost of the fares - minimal. On the day when we were leaving, I discovered that the battery of my car had gone flat (it was an old one!), and when I asked at reception whether they could contact a mechanic to assist me, I instead was provided with a member of staff who took me in his car to a nearby garage, where we purchased a new battery which he brought back to the hotel, where he insisted on using his tools to change the old for the new for me! Beyond the course of duty!

The rooms were nice and clean,nothing too fancy but ok. Peaceful, quiet place near the beach. Everything worked nicely. Service was ok, very polite all the time. Brakfast could have been better. More fresh fruits and vegetables and porridge, please! Jacuzzi was a nice surprise.(Although it wasn´t very clean.)

Nice hotell, nice stuff.

The budget rooms are located in a separate, recent building at the back of the nice romantic hotel and feels more like a motel. The bedroom was spacious, but the "double bed" is actually composed of 2 single bed pushed beside each other. The room and bathroom were very clean, even though the standard of service was different from day to day, and there was a constant bad smell in the bathroom. The restaurant was very nice, with very good and affordable food, very well executed and largely protionned. The staff was very friendly and helpfull.
