I had always wanted to stay at the famous Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.With its vast history both as a landmark building and with its political past. I wanted to follow in the footsteps of the rich and famous - JFK, Grace Kelly, Charlie Chaplin, Rock Hudson - and in more recent times - pretty much all the major Hollywood players. I must say the hotel lived up to its name, from the moment we arrived and were greeted by the doorman, to our departure 3 days later. The Horseshoe Bar is a must, and the Saddle Room restaurant is well worth a visit. Excellent breakfast menu - and as we booked through yeego.com, the room rate was excellent. Tip - when booking, ask for a room with a park view, they may charge a little more for this, but its worth the money. Also note that the public bar NO.27 is definately the place to be seen, and gets very busy from early afternoon onwards, but as they say in Ireland 'sure it's all good craic', so get a Guinness, settle down and enjoy some people watching, who knows -who you might spot!

Disappointed with this hotel. The foyer and check-in area are gorgeous but the bedrooms are far from 5 star. Our room was small and old fashioned in decor and had no full length mirror, except on a sliding bathroom door which refused to stay closed. Blow drying hair was a difficulty to manoeuvre power points, mirror etc. Breakfast was only average, with much of the hot food lukewarm. Most staff were friendly and helpful except the night porter(at only 10.30) who seemed to view staying guests with suspicion. He was most unhelpful and rude when we took a wrong turn when coming out of a lift and opened a door to a function room by mistake. Overnight parking was an absolute rip off at 25 euro when we could have parked our car ourselves for 7.50 for the night in the same car park. Other 5 star hotels close by offer this service free of charge, which we have stayed at. We will not be returning to this hotel.
