Castleknock Hotel occupies the lands of Somerton House, which was apportioned from the Luttrellstown Estate and belonged to Henry Lawless Lutrell. The Brooke family purchased it in the early 1800’s. In 1911 the Brooke family sold Somerton to T.K Laidlaw a steward of the Irish Turf Club who used Somerton as a stud farm and bred two Grand National winners there. In the early 1980’s, Phil Monahan of Monarch Properties bought Somerton House and adjoining land. In 2003 construction began on the hotel which opened in January 2005 and Castleknock Golf Club opened in September 2005.
