| The Excelsior is located just opposite the main railway station - Hauptbahnhof. I was a little worried at first that it might be a noisy area, but not at all, my worries were unfounded. In fact the location is premier. S-bahn line 17 immediately outside, ideal for my needs, many other lines available infront of the main station. U-bahn only two minutes walk away, perfect. When I first arrived I presented my voucher, obtained from this booking service, and was swiftly given a registration form and my electronic key fob with a welcoming information briefing which included items such as free coffee during the day and a free minibar in the room, there are also free local telephone calls and a free internet service available. A good start. There are only two relatively small lifts, so after my initial use of getting my bags up to third floor I used the stairs - it was quicker. The electronic key worked, but my door knob had a missing central cap, a minor cosmetic point. I noticed that many of the rooms are actively being refurbished, and two were being worked on my floor - the small of fresh paint first thing in the morning! But at least there is active maintenance. I could have filled in the maintenance card in the room to report the missing doorknob cap, but I didn't. The room was a single bedroom, it had a three seater sofa, a chair, desk, tv, bedside table and telephone. Perfect for my needs. The ensuite bathroom was compact - a large person may have difficulty sitting on the loo in the space available, but I was fine. The shower worked fine, but the design of the shower-head was pitiful; physics and gravity determined that it was destined to droop at a less than amusing angle. Soap, shower gel, shampoo, flannel, tissues and hair dryer all provided. I have stayed in some very expensive hotels where the hair dryer is not situated anywhere near a mirror, here they got it right. The room cleaning and minibar refill was efficient and well done. Mini bar contained two bottles of carbonated water, a larger bottle of still water, two bottles of orange juice, and two bottles of beer; whatever you used was replaced. Recycling considerations were obvious with the request not to put bottles into the bin (as well as the now universal optional towel cleaning policy). The breakfast buffet was very good. Lots of choice, similar to much more expensive hotels, I commend the Excelsior on their breakfast. They seem to cater well for travellers from the orient with a separate dim sum table. My favourite, however, was the smoked salmon which accompanied a very good scrambled egg - I saw some people with plates piled high with smoked salmon - they obviously agrred with me! The Internet cafe was a little frustrating as not all of the stations worked, but having found one that did work I was able to keep in touch, so this was a valued service. There are also network points where you plug in a laptop of required. Check out rapid and efficient. I would condsider staying here again when I next need to return to Frankfurt. |

| Room is OK in general. I would recomend thicker pillows and lighter blankets!!. Service is good, specially the recepcion people. Food is in the average, good. Location is OK. |
