The food and service in this hotel was very good. The hotel location was excellent and we were able to easily walk to all sites. The room that we had was small although it was clean and well maintained.

Hotel was clean, and modern with quiet rooms. Breakfast was great and served each day until 12.30pm. Hotel is located close to everything and staff were very helpful, particularly as we were a large group.

We stayed at the Hotel Maximilian for 3 nights in February. After reading online reviews and looking at the hotel website, we had reasonably high expectations. The hotel had been recently renovated, and the lobby was very sleek and modern. But it was apparent that the renovations were fairly superficial, as the elevator was worn-down and the rooms themselves had cracked walls and some old fixtures in the bathrooms.
The furniture in the room was modern, but showed signs of wear and tear, and the bathroom was just standard; it was not like the ultra-modern, funky bathrooms pictured on the hotel's website. The bed was very comfortable, but there were some horrible stains on the blanket. Additionally, the TV was old, and was not changed after the renovations.
Service was good, but housekeeping did not replace our water bottles, soap, and shampoo every morning as is normal practice. The staff was friendly enough, but it seemed like they were watching your every move. Breakfast was great and was open on the weekends until noon. Also, the free computer/printing centre was very handy.
Location was excellent, only a few minutes from all the major sites, but on a quiet, accessible street. Note that it is only around the corner from the Hotel Josef, Maximilian's new 4-star sister hotel.
Overall, it seemed like the Hotel Maximilian was a 3-star hotel spackled to resemble a 4-star. For the same price, there are better 4-star hotels to choose from.
