The Hotel Dubrovnik is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the old city, with wonderful views from all rooms, faultless service by staff you really believe want to help with whatever they can, and great food in a restaurant with a lovely setting. We'd taken my husband's parents on a weekend to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and the hotel rose to the occasion by presenting us with a 'surprise' bottle of complimentary champagne and a congratulations card, just a couple of hours after we'd explained the situation. The regular free shuttle boat to the harbour is a nice touch. The hotel will close to renovate and extend from this autumn until July 2007, planning 10 extra rooms, 10 suites, and a swimming pool. Let's hope they can grow without losing the wonderful intimate atmosphere we found in 2006.

Our room was vey quiet, with fantastic views of the old town and Lokrum. Staff were welcoming, helpful and had lovely senses of humour. Waiter service at all meals was an unexpected luxury not often found in many smaller hotels. The whole ambience of the hotel was calming and restful, rather like a health spa and suited my daughter and me. The location was ideal, just a short walk into the old town. The complementary boat and mini-bus was useful at times. In all, as excellent hotel for us. We would certainly recommend the hotel to friends

The hotel and view were fine but I would not return to this hotel. It was the most expensive of three hotels I stayed in yet had the least facilities. There was no swimming pool and the food was barely adequate - continental breakfast and a very small dinner. The walk from from Villa Dubrovnik to Hotel Argentina, en route to the city, was on a poorly lit road with no footpath so it was not safe walking to or from the Old Town because of cars passing. I was moved to a better room two days after my arrival and was happy with that. I was charged €321 per night (the same as for two people)yet had to complain about the service I received from some of the waiters. On several occasions couples who had arrived after me were served first while I was left waiting and some of them were quite rude. Even after the manager, Nada, spoke to them it happened again. I met many interesting and friendly visitors during my stay there which was the best part of this hotel. An English couple I met at the Airport told me they had to complain about the food. Compared with Hotel Argentina (which cost €100 less per night)I feel I was grossly overcharged. The service, facilities and food in Hotel Argentina were far superior and cost much less. The manager, Nada, was very apologetic for the behaviour of the waiters but that should not have been necessary. The reception staff were also excellent.
