The Excelsior is a really nice hotel. As I suggest in the title, the view is extraordinary--the breakfast veranda or any seaside room gives a perfect view of the old city. Speaking of breakfast, the breakfast buffet (our only experience with the hotel restaurants)was absolutely superb. The only real reason for an 8 instead of a 10 is that The Excelsior, like almost every other hotel we saw in Croatia, had no king beds, instead giving us twins pushed together. It wouldn't have been a big deal, except that they had frames that kept the mattresses from meeting. Not the best for a honeymoon. One other small demerit for not having any free web access, instead offering chintzy coin-op terminals. That is out of step with the cost and elegance of the hotel. Overall, though, it really is very nice, and very much something I would recommend. The swimming platform and its bar are both very nice. Great service.
